Will We Never Forget or Will We Have Amnesia?

Every year more Americans are born who have no memory of September 11. Many others may have been alive, but quite young, and 9-11 is just a story to them. Then there are those of us who have very vivid memories and recollections of that beautiful morning in September, 24 years ago. That would be where I fall.

I’ve written quite a bit about September 11 in past years. I will continue to write about it, and to share those past articles, as well. I will remind the world as best I can of the devastating loss we suffered on 9-11.

It is so important to remember and honor those who died were murdered. And I have learned from my friends in Hungary –who honor past heroes and remember past evil very well–that it is important to remember the past in order to not make the same mistakes going forward.

We’re not totally expert yet at not repeating mistakes. For instance, at present, we are “giving a chance” to Al-Joulani, the so-called leader of Syria. You can discover why this is not a wise idea from his past affiliations, itemized in this MEMRI article about Al-Joulani aka Al-Sharaa. In his present affiliation he has overseen — either passively or not so passively, depending on who you believe, the slaughter of hundreds and hundreds of both Christians and Druze.

And then there’s the fact that this man was inspired to his jihadism by September 11! Al-Joulani needs to prove that it is not foolhardy of the U.S. to give him a chance by providing protection, security, and separate sovereignty for Syria’s Druze and Christians. Otherwise, America’s amnesia will not only harm Syrians, but could harm us, as well. We cannot let down American men, women, and children killed on 9/11, heroic first responders, fallen soldiers who leapt to enlist in the U.S. armed forces following that terrorist attack.

Back to September 11. I will be posting all of my previous articles about various aspects of the terrorist attack on our nation, including the one from which the above photo is taken — the story of my friend and fellow church member, Angie Houtz, who died at the Pentagon that day. As I do this, I send all of my love to those no longer with us, to their families who remain, and to the surviving comrades of fallen police and firefighters.
