SUDAN IN THE NEWS: Earlier this summer, I was asked to contribute to a CBN News story about Sudan. After quite a long interview with CBN journalist John Jessup, I show up briefly in John’s story to emphasize the spiritual aspect of the war in Sudan. Even today the war in Sudan continues. It has been overwhelmingly devastating, and it has spread in various ways. One more recent outbreak has been in the Nuba Mountains, which heretofore was a place of relative safety and refuge for Sudanese fleeing from both the Sudan Armed Forces (of the Muslim Brotherhood affiliated Sudan regime) and the Rapid Security Forces (the notorious Janjaweed jihadists).

INDIA IN THE NEWS: One of the America 250 special events was a special section celebrating freedom in The Washington Times newspaper. “Celebrate 250: The Fight for Political, Economic, and Religious Freedom” is a special supplement honoring America’s founding and core values. I was asked to write a short briefing on the state of religious freedom (or lack thereof) for Christians in India.

I started out my Washington Times article relating the story of Australian missionary doctor Graham Staines and his two little sons who were burned alive in their car after visiting a Christian community in Orissa State. The loving forgiveness of Staines’ wife, Gladys, and their daughter, Esther, who stayed in India and continued to minister to lepers was incredibly inspiring.

In a nation where only 2% of the population are Christian, persecution has been and still is rampant in many areas of both North and South India. As I said in my article, “Persecution includes egregious discrimination; beatings and torture; burning of churches, businesses and homes; and even murder. It is attributed to mobs fomented by radical Hindu groups, such as Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), as well as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” They believe that India is for Hindus only.

Indian Christians are exemplary and loyal citizens of their country. Their only “disloyalty” is being followers of Jesus. Despite terrible persecution, the Body of Christ in India continues to grow. They deserve our prayers, respect, and advocacy.

CHINA IN THE NEWS: Finally, last month, July 23 was the annual rally against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in Washington, DC. The rally, sponsored by Falun Gong, takes place around the anniversary of the beginning of the CCP’s brutal crackdown on this group. This was the 27th anniversary of that repression and persecution, and it was my 26th year of speaking at the rally.

This year for the first time the rally was held at the Lincoln Memorial in front of the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall. The Falun Gong adherents — who are fierce defenders of freedom — are passionate lovers of America, and in this 250th birthday year of America they wanted this special place to demonstrate their gratitude to the United States in the face of the CCP’s brutal and criminal actions against not only Falun Gong, but against Christians, Uyghurs, and others.

Those of us doing advocacy for freedom in China have known about this unspeakable weapon of torture and death for years, but even more horror was revealed in the new book by Epoch Times senior editor Jan Jekielek, Killed to Order. Jekielek, who is also the host of “America’s Thought Leaders” on Epoch TV, exposed the CCP elites twisted belief that they can extend their lives indefinitely with continual transplants of new organs. In my speech, I declared, “This evil practice will not save them. God will not be mocked by their using human sacrifices to try to attain eternal life.” You can hear part of my speech here or read the whole thing here.
